Porphyrins and Metalloporphyrins

چکیده
This is another of an increasing number of human gross anatomy books being published in abbreviated form. Throughout the book each left-hand page contains quite accurate written descriptions of structures that are illustrated as line drawings on the opposite right-hand page. Even though the text is written in a telegraphic style and the drawings are small, the book still contains 443 pages. It would have been desirable to have a number of the drawings with many labels larger than they are. One of the authors, Dr. Pansky, made the drawings that the authors state the book was written around. Most of the drawings appear quite familiar to be because they are very similar to illustrations in other popular textbooks. The color added to a few drawings enhance their attractiveness more than their clarity. The authors state that even though the material is simplified, concise, and in outline form, it is, nevertheless, complete. However, the drawings of the bony pelvis are those of a female and no mention is made of the fact that the male pelvis is quite different. The terminology used is with few exceptions, an anglicized form of the revised Paris terminology. The book is exactly what is stated in its title, a review. It is of use to one who has already studied gross anatomy with a standard textbook, and who wants to make a quick check on the essentials of a given structure or region. The book serves this purpose quite well. E. S. CRELIN

Unusual regioselective mercuration of metalloporphyrins and its potential applications.
The reaction of Hg(CF3CO2)2 with metalloporphyrins produces mercurated porphyrins regioselectively, the reaction, surprisingly occurring at the most hindered betaB-position; this behavior is in marked contrast to the usual electrophilic substitution reactions of porphyrins, whose reactions produce meso-substituted porphyrins; the obtained mercurated porphyrins are active to transition metal-cat...
متن کاملSynthesis and Characterization of New Meso-Substituted and -Substituted Unsymmetrical Metalloporphyrins
The synthesis and characterization of new meso-substituted and -substituted unsymmetrical metallorphyrins has been described. A new modified Alder method was used for the synthesis of unsymmetrical porphyrins. Reaction of these unsymmetrical porphyrins with metal chlorides and nitrates afforded the corresponding metalloporphyrins in high yields with excellent purity. These porphyrins and their...
متن کاملThe materials chemistry of porphyrins and metalloporphyrins
Porphyrins and metalloporphyrins provide an extremely versatile nanometer-sized building block for the control of materials properties. Films, solids and microporous solids have been explored as field-responsive materials (i.e. interactions with applied electric, magnetic or electromagnetic fields) and as ‘chemo-responsive’ materials (i.e. interactions with other chemical species as sensors or ...

متن کاملPorphyrins and metalloporphyrins: versatile circular dichroic reporter groups for structural studies.
During the last few years, porphyrins and metalloporphyrins have attracted widespread attention as chromophores for studies in circular dichroism (CD), an indispensable chiroptical tool for monitoring chiral interactions. This review summarizes the multifaceted properties of porphyrins and metalloporphyrins, powerful CD chromophores that are characterized by their intense and red-shifted Soret ...
متن کاملSynthesis, characterization and cation-induced dimerization of new aza-crown ether-appended metalloporphyrins.
New metalloporphyrins bearing one or two aryl-aza-crown ether moieties at meso-positions have been synthesized using a palladium catalyzed amination reaction and fully characterized by spectral techniques. X-Ray structural data have been presented for the zinc and copper complexes of mono-substituted aza-crown ether appended metalloporphyrins. UV-Vis and (1)H NMR spectroscopic studies showed th...
